To obtain authentic customer reviews, solicit all buyers neutrally after a realistic usage time, link each return to an order when possible and clearly publish your control method. The goal isn't just to post compliments: it's to make the customer experience verifiable and useful.

What's authentic customer review?
Authentic review comes from someone who has had the experience described. For a product review, the strongest evidence is the connection between the author, the order and the product. For an opinion on the company, you must at least be able to explain the origin of the return.
A traceable origin
Order, product and delivery form an internal audit trail, without exposing private data.
A neutral request
The same message goes to all affected buyers, not just satisfied customers.
Intact content
Remove personal data if necessary, but do not rewrite the review.
A visible context
Date, product, verification and possible consideration enlighten the reader.
In France, the Consumer Code requires fair, clear and transparent information on the publication and processing of reviews. If you claim they come from buyers, you must have taken the necessary steps to verify this.
1. Build reliable collection after purchase
- Define experience evaluated. Product, delivery and business do not answer the same question.
- Choose the right trigger. Start from delivery and leave a suitable usage time.
- Solicit each eligible buyer. Do not reserve the public form for positive responses.
- Link the form to the order. An individual link limits reviews posted without a purchase and simplifies the "verified purchase" label.
- Ask few questions. A rating, review, product or variation, and an optional photo are often enough.
- Plan for moderation. Write the criteria for publication, refusal and retention.
2. Choose the right collection channel on Shopify
The best tool is not the one that promises the most stars, but the one that maintains reliable proof and integrates neatly into your journey.
| Canal | Usage | Asset | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shop Reviews | Product review after purchase | Attachment to the product and order in the Shop ecosystem | Depends on eligibility and feature activation |
| Compatible application | Collection and display in the store | Automation, widgets and import depending on the tool | Cost, technical impact and specific rules to be verified |
| Email and internal form | Simple or specific process | Message and question control | "Verified" status requires your own proof and procedure |
| External platform | Company or Service Reviews | Separate and shareable source | A company review does not always prove the purchase of a specific product |
3. Write a request that promotes useful feedback
The message must be short, identifiable and without pressure. Mention the order or product, explain the usefulness of the return and give direct access to the form.
A one-time reminder may be provided if no response is received. Avoid misleading items, pre-filled reviews and wording like "leave us 5 stars". If consideration is offered for any honest feedback, it should not depend on the rating and should be clearly reported to the reader.
Ask what was popular, what could be improved and which profile the product is suitable for. A photo must remain optional and its use clearly explained.
4. Present opinions without weakening their credibility
On the product sheet
Place a summary near the price or main stock, then detailed reviews below. Show product, date, rating and verified status only if proven.
On the homepage
Show some recent feedback with their source or a link to the whole thing. Avoid anonymous quotes taken out of context.
In the collections
An average score can help compare whether the calculation actually relates to the product displayed and whether the details remain accessible.
On a dedicated page
Explain the collection method, classification criteria, control carried out and possible consideration.
On mobile, reviews should support the journey without hiding the price, variations or addition to cart. Also consult our advice for simplifying the buying journey and make a Shopify store credible.
5. Respond to negative reviews and moderate honestly
A specific negative review is not a fault to hide. It may reveal a poorly explained size, an ambiguous deadline or a wait created by the product sheet. Respond calmly, confirm verifiable facts, provide a suitable suite and never post personal information about the customer.
- Publish sincere criticism, even severe, when it respects the rules announced.
- Refuse spam, personal data, illegal comments, off-topic content or a review with no demonstrable experience if your policy requires it.
- Inform the author of the reason for rejection in accordance with the applicable framework.
- Document any technical or commercial correction triggered by recurring returns.
6. Errors that make reviews suspicious
Invent or buy reviews
It's deceptive, forbidden, and destructive to trust.
Only ask the satisfied
Pre-filtering distorts the image given to visitors.
Affix "verified" without proof
An email received spontaneously alone does not prove a purchase.
Rewrite comments
Correcting the substance or removing the reservations modifies the testimony.
Hide the counterpart
A possible benefit must be independent of the rating and announced.
Overload the page
A slow or invasive widget can harm the journey it was intended to reassure.
Complete this work with one convincing product description and avoid them design mistakes that cause you to lose confidence.

FAQ: Get and view genuine reviews
How do I verify that a review comes from a real buyer?
Link the request and notice filing to an order and the product concerned. Do not publish private data, but keep internal proof of reconciliation.
Can we offer a discount in exchange for a review?
A quid pro quo should not depend on a positive rating. If you offer one for any honest feedback, indicate it clearly and check the rules of the channel used.
Should negative reviews be published?
Yes when describing a real experience and respecting the rules announced. A review should not be refused just because it is unfavorable.
Can we correct mistakes in a customer review?
Avoid modifying the text without clear rules and agreements. Removing personal data may be necessary, but the meaning should not be changed or a reservation removed.
Where to place reviews on a Shopify product sheet?
View a summary near the purchase area, then the detailed reviews below. On mobile, the block should remain compact and not hide variations or the add button.
Are Shop reviews verified?
Shopify indicates that Shop customers who have purchased can evaluate a product after delivery. The "Verified by Shop" badge corresponds to a review related to the product and the order according to its device.
How many reminders should I send?
A first message and then, if necessary, a single, measured reminder are generally a reasonable approach. Always leave the option of not responding.
Are the stars enough to convince?
No. Contextualized comments, date, product, control method, and store responses are often more useful than an isolated average.
